If you are copy and pasting long URL links into documents, or for online moderation etc, then if you haven't looked at a shortening tool, you should.
The standard for free usage has been Goo.gl.
Goo.gl is being phased out. I am using Bitly and have found it to be a great tool. Especially as you can modify and keep track of the shorteners you use. If you want more info, have a look at the website or see me.
Bitly is free, but it does require you to register.
